City Island Civic Association

The next meeting of the City Island Civic Association will be on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. in the City Island Community Center, 190 Fordham Street.

Progress reports with the issues of crime prevention, quality of life, traffic, and development will be presented by the committee chairs. Bill Stanton will bring us up-to-date on the progress of the ongoing police matters. Barbara Dolensek will bring us- to-date on the cell tower issue.

The traffic problem was greatly improved this summer and for that we thank the NYPD for a job well done. To show our appreciation we would like to see a big attendance at the 45th Precinct Community Council meeting on Thursday, October 1, at 7 p.m. at the precinct headquarters, 2877 Barkley Avenue in the Bronx.

At the Civic’s September meeting, we will discuss the issue of alternate-side-of-the-street cleaning along City Island Avenue for two mornings a week so that the Department of Sanitation will be able to clean the street. It has been proposed that on one morning for an hour there would be no parking on the west side of the avenue, and on the following morning there would be no parking for an hour on the east side of the avenue.

The slate for the 2010 officers is a follows: Fred Ramftl for First Vice President, John Doyle for Corresponding Secretary and Tom Smith for Treasurer. Additional nomination will be accepted from the floor at this meeting. Voting will take place at the October meeting.

If you have not paid your 2009 dues, you will not be allowed to vote so please make sure your dues are up-to-date.
