At the April meeting of the Civic Association, a representative of the NYC Office of Emergency Management advised all residents to alert authorities to anything suspicious. He said that all of the recent terrorist plots in the city had been uncovered by private citizens reporting unusual situations.
At the May meeting, Lieutenant Ortiz of the 45th Precinct advised us that the best way for the Police Department to handle issues on City Island was for residents to alert them. If you see a crime in process, call 911; if you see the results of vandalism or other crimes, call 311 and report it (and send the Civic Association your reference number for follow up). Or you can call the 45th Precinct directly at 718-822-5411 or e-mail the Community Affairs officer at cao45pct@aol.com. The emails have the advantage of providing written evidence of a complaint, both for the caller and for the Police Department.
If you see what you suspect are drug deals, call the direct line for Bronx Narcotics: 718-653-7372.
