January 2010 meeting notice

The next meeting of the City Island Civic Association will be on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at the City Island Community Center, 190 Fordham Street.

Progress reports with the issues of crime prevention, quality of life, traffic, and development will be presented by the committee chairs. Bill Stanton will bring us up-to-date on the progress of the on-going police matters.

Alert: Burglaries on City Island

There has been a rash of recent burglaries on the Island. On Nov. 12 and 13, a house on Carroll Street (cash and jewelry) and the Island Café (cash) and Lickety Split, and on Nov. 18 the Snug. Reports were made to the police, but I have not heard that anyone has been apprehended. The robberies at the commercial establishments occurred late at night.

November 2009 meeting notice

The next meeting of the City Island Civic Association will be on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at the City Island Community Center, 190 Fordham Street. This will be the last meeting of 2009 so everyone who can, please attend.

Marine Street Development

The architect and a lawyer for the owner of the property at the east end of Marine Street plan to attend the Civic Association meeting at the Community Center on Tuesday, Nov. 24, to present the latest version of plans for a major development planned for the site. The same owner has had this property for 20 years but has never proceeded to build anything. The new plans include two large two-story buildings containing 32 apartments, plus parking for 93 cars and public waterfront access.

Public Hearings concerning City Island Estates

To All:
As you know, the Board voted on the Resolutions for City Island Estates. There will be a public hearing at the Bronx Borough President's Office, located at 851 Grand Concourse on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 in Room 206 at 10:00 AM. Anyone interested in commenting is requested to fill out a speakers card at the Hearing.
