For specific problems of complaints, use the numbers below (be sure to write down the name of any individual you speak with). If you get no satisfaction or if you want the issue to be addressed by the community, email the City Island Civic Association (city.island.civic@mac.com). You may also call Community Planning Board 10 at 718-892-1161 or email district manager Kenneth Kearns at bx10@cb.nyc.gov.
If you are disturbed by excessive noise made by construction companies before 7 in the morning or after 11 at night or on weekends, call 311 or the Department of Environmental Protection at 800-DEP-HELP. To complain about excessive airplane noise from low-flying planes over City Island, call the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at 516-228-8029.
If you see a loose or derelict boat or dock or other wreckage on the water, call 911; you may also call the Army Corps of Engineers at 917-790-8500. For illegal operation of boats or jet skis, call 911.
If you see evidence of illegal dumping or other activity damaging to the environment, call the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) at 718-482-4885. On weekends or after hours, call 800-847-7332.
To file a complaint about suspected illegal construction or building use, call 311. To check on the status of a violation at a particular address, go to the Buildings Department web site through www.nyc.gov.
